Conor McGregor wants equity in the UFC. We recently spoke to some fellow fighters to see if the two-division UFC champion really deserves it.
Earlier this month in UFC 205’s pay-per-view headliner, featherweight champ McGregor (21-3 MMA, 9-1 UFC) dethroned lightweight titleholder Eddie Alvarez (28-5 MMA, 3-2 UFC) to become the first fighter in UFC history to simultaneously hold two UFC belts.
The event, which marked the UFC’s long awaited New York City debut, did big business – breaking numerous company records – in large part due to McGregor, who’s been the sport’s biggest draw in 2016.
After the title win, McGregor said he deserves equity in the UFC (and specifically mentioned the organization’s new celebrity ownership group), which got media and fans talking.
It also got fellow fighters pondering the question: Does a top draw like McGregor deserve a piece of the company?
